Sting and His Wife to Receive Humanitarian Honor at New York City Gala Next Week
Sting and his wife, Trudie Styler, will be saluted for their work as humanitarians at a benefit gala organized by the We Are Family Foundation that will take place April 11 at the Manhattan Center in New York City. The inaugural We Are Family Honors event will include a concert performance by the former Police frontman and Nile Rodgers & Chic, along with as-yet-unannounced special guests.
Also during the bash, Sting and Trudy will be presented with the foundation's Humanitarian Award for their various philanthropic endeavors including their Rainforest Fund, which they established to help protect rainforests and indigenous populations around the world. Previous award winners include Elton John, Peter Gabriel and Jackson Browne.
"The We Are Family Foundation was born as a result of the 9/11 tragedy, after which I asked the question, 'Can we organize for peace half as effectively as others do for hate?'" explains Rodgers, the nonprofit organization's founder and chairman. "My song, 'We Are Family,' was the inspiration to bring people together, celebrate our differences and share ideas across borders in order to solve some of the bigger problems facing our world. We are inspired by Sting and Trudie and their dedication to making the world a better place."
Funds raised by the event will go toward We Are Family Foundation's various programs which reward teenagers who encourage peace and work toward positive global change.
