Tom Petty is auctioning off one of his prized automobiles via eBay to help raise money for the Doctors Without Borders charity. According to a statement from the rocker, the 1996 Jaguar XJS convertible has "an incredible design" and is his favorite car he's ever owned.
"I have so many great memories associated with this car," writes Petty. "When I began dating Dana (my wife) I asked her what her favorite car was. So, I phoned the office and said I wanted a Champagne convertible Jaguar XJS. The next day they delivered it to my house…and I took it for a drive down the Pacific Coast Highway. I was in heaven, as was Dana."
Jaguar stopped producing the model the same year Petty purchased his car. Bids on the vehicle will be accepted until 5 p.m. ET on October 21.
Doctors Without Borders is a humanitarian organization that provides medical help to war-torn and impoverished regions of the world.
