Michael Jackson fans in New York City and Los Angeles will have a chance to see BAD25 in theaters before the Spike Lee-directed documentary airs on this Thanksgiving on ABC, according to USA Today.

The film, which celebrates the 25th anniversary of Michael's Bad album and Bad world tour, will be shown for one-week engagements starting October 19.  Two select theaters, one in Manhattan and the other in Hollywood, will present the film.

It's likely that these special theater screenings are being held in order to make the documentary eligible for an Oscar nomination.  In order to be nominated, a movie has to screen for at least seven days in both New York City and Los Angeles before the end of the year.

The BAD25 documentary includes rare clips and never-before-seen footage that give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Michael's landmark Bad album.  The film also includes interviews with some of Michael's collaborators, including Martin Scorsese.  His famous fans including Mariah Carey, Cee Lo Green and more, also appear.
