Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta Reunite for Charity Christmas Album

10/3/2012

Everyone loved Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta together in Grease -- not just their acting, but their singing as well. Now, the two iconic stars have re-teamed for a very special project: a charity Christmas album that marks their first time recording together in nearly 35 years.

The disc, This Christmas, will be in stores November 13, and it's quite the star-studded project. In addition to Olivia and John, the album also features guest appearances by Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, James Taylor, Kenny G, Cliff Richard and jazz legend Chick Corea.

The songs on the album are holiday standards, except for one original, "I Think You Might Like It," written by John Farrar, the guy who wrote Olivia and John's beloved Grease duet "You're the One that I Want."  The new song is described as something of a sequel to that classic.

In fact, "You're the One That I Want" is the reason this project came about.  Last Christmas, Olivia texted John to tell him that the song had become the best-selling duet in pop music history.  The idea for the album came from there.  John says in a statement, "From the moment we decided to do this, magic happened. Everyone we contacted agreed to do it."

"It just fell into place," says Olivia.  "With our busy schedules, I don't know how we got it done." She adds, " John and I have always connected. That's never gone away. When we're together, we have a good laugh and feel bonded to one another. We've been through some amazing experiences together."

Speaking about their concept for the disc, John says, "I wanted people to be able to play it around the house or in the car during the holidays, and make us part of your celebration. Gathering around house listening to Christmas music has always been an important part of that time of the year to my family."

Proceeds from the disc will benefit two charities near and dear to the stars' hearts: John's Jett Travolta Foundation, which combats children's disabilities, and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne, Australia, which helps cancer victims and funds research for a cure.
